چکیده

Neuronal voltage gated calcium channels (VGCCs) including Cav2.1 and Cav2.2 channels mediate the presynaptic machinery for vesicular release of neurotransmitters. However, the role of different VGCCs in the neural circuits underlying spatial short-term memory has not been studied. Although it has been reported that spatial cognition requires Cav2.1-regulated signaling in the hippocampus, Cav2.2-regulated function remains unknown. This study examined whether Cav2.2-mediated signaling plays role in spontaneous alternation patterns of Y maze test. Mice received intracerebroventricular injection of Cav2.2 blocker (ω-conotoxin GVIA, 5 pg/ side) showed impaired spontaneous alternation patterns. Intrahippocampal injection of ω-conotoxin GVIA (5 pg/side) induced learning impairment. These results indicate that Cav2.2-mediated signaling is also critical in the hippocampus-dependent spatial cognition.

Cav2.2-mediated NMDA receptor signaling in short-term memory

It has been reported that Cav2.1-mediated N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor signaling is critical pathway in hippocampus and nucleus accumbens for spatial short-term memory. Neuronal voltage-dependent Cav2.1 and Cav2.2 have predominantly expressions at presynaptic neuronal terminals and mediate glutamate release in the central nervous systems. Recently, although Cav2.2 in the hippocampus and...

Disruption of spatial cognition by intra-accumbens injection of Cav2.2 inhibitor

Cav2.1 and Cav2.2 channels have predominantly expressions at presynaptic neuronal terminals and mediate neurotransmitter release in the central nervous systems. Although it has been reported that spatial learning requires Cav2.1-regulated signaling in the nucleus accumbens (NAc), Cav2.2-regulated function remains unknown. In this study we examined whether Cav2.2-mediated signaling in NAc plays ...

Assessment of the effect of nitric oxide within hippocampal CA1 area on spatial learning and memory in morphine dependent rats

Introduction: There are evidences showing the role of nitric oxide in the opiate reward properties. The role of nitric oxide signaling pathway as an intracellular mechanism on augmentation of long term potentiation in hippocampal CA1 area of rats is also confirmed. It has been also reported that oral morphine dependence facilitates formation of spatial learning and memory via activation of N...

The role of hippocampal nitric oxide in passive avoidance learning

Abstract: Introduction: Nitric oxide (NO) is a retrograde messenger in hippocampal synaptic plasticity which involves in learning and memory processes. Previous studies revealed that hippocampal pyramidal cells contain NO synthase (NOS) enzyme which produce NO and could be a promising target to evaluate the role of NO in brain cognitive functions. So in this study, using NOS inhibitor (L-NAME)...
